Massage therapy for dogs

Dogs can suffer from anxiety and stress just like humans do. Maybe they are tired from running back and forth all day, chasing a ball or Frisbee. They might have been left alone for a longer period of time than they are used to. Whatever the reason, if your dog is not acting quite himself, take the time to spend some time with him. Give him a massage. I don’t mean just pet him, actually massage his muscles.

Giving your dog a massage when he is not acting normal will give you a chance to find out if there are any tender spots on his body. Maybe all the rough-housing pulled a muscle. If he whimpers or yelps when you are working on a certain area, you will be able to tell your vet if a visit is needed.

If he is suffering from something emotional having you there, pampering him will make him feel better. Dogs do go through hormonal changes just like humans. They can have a bad day. I know a massage would certainly make me feel better when things just seem to have me down.

Think of all the times your dog has sat by your feet, nuzzled or licked you when you were stressed, and how it lightened the mood. Next time he seems to be just laying around, a bit melancholy, go lay beside him, and give him your attention, and a massage. He’ll be bringing you his ball in no time.
