Update on Dogs at Restaurants

Dog Owner Etiquette for Restaurants

I’m not really sure how many places actually allow dogs in restaurants; around here, it’s mostly places where you can eat with them and stay outside. I still maintain that I’d be too concerned with mine trying to meet every dog that comes around and they’re slowly learning that every dog isn’t as excited to see them as they are to see it. They embarrassed me in the hall just a few minutes ago because they saw a daschund coming towards them and they rushed towards him and he ran the other direction. They didn’t get it, so they tried to get his attention by barking and yipping and bouncing and being general dogs and then the owner picked him up so it was that much worse. I hate that some dogs don’t even know that they’re dogs and that they’re supposed to be flat out thrilled to see other dogs but then I feel bad at the same time. My dogs need to calm down just to satisfy other people’s perception of it. They think my dogs are being “violent” or something when all they’re doing is expressing general excitement over seeing someone like them.

For example, I’m a 22 year old African America female. If I met someone who looked like me, walked like me, talked like me, had the same general goals as me, everything – I’d be excited. I’d try to get her attention and talk to her. That’s what my dogs do but they do it in doggy way. Now, say that person sees me and their eyes bug out of their head and they run in the other direction. I’d be badly confused and probably try harder to get them to notice me, right? Yeah – exactly what my dogs do. Puppy is the one that barks mostly. Titus only barks when he thinks he can get away with it (i.e. when Puppy is already doing it).
